Title: "Sound Pond"
Date: Spring 2005
Creation Time: About 5 hours
Dimensions: Approximately 45cm X 35cm
Style: Surrealistic found-object drawing
Medium: Ebony pencil
Subject: Venus fly village releasing sound fairy upon lily speakers in a caged laboratory pond
Theme: Life can arise from anywhere that you can possibly imagine.
Aesthetics: Spherical distortion used to focus viewer's attention on subjects.
Process: This was completed for a school assignment that directed us to invent creative scenarios from a set of four random objects. In this case-- a shoe horn, a speaker, and photos of a house and fence. I started out with thumbnails and sketched out a rough composition from the thumbnails. With the composition and overall concept in motion, I loosely threw my idea onto the paper. By leaving some of the details up in the air, I allowed myself some creative room to improvise as I went along. I chose this technique to maintain a high level of creativity, while still ensuring conceptual focus and a balanced composition.
