Aesthetics: The goal was to create a high-energy logo with a uniquely recognizable appearance from afar. Also, to have an aura of complexity and sophistication. The absence of color focuses viewer's attention on complex shapes. The patterns of shapes used, and the silhouette of the logo mimics shapes found within a locust's body. The square in the background serves as a guiding shape to aid the viewer in assesing the different areas of the graphic more easily.
Process: I was given the project goals and assigned the task of creating a brand identity. I decided to use a locust because of their methodical behavior and incredible strength in large groups. I began making thumbnails of how the overall form should look. I loosely interpreted those ideas into Illustrator with the pen tool and an assortment of distortion effects.
